Islam places immense importance on maintaining family ties (Silat ur-Rahm). A strong family bond is the foundation of a healthy and peaceful society. The Qur’an and Hadith emphasize keeping relations strong and strictly warn against cutting them.


1️⃣ Importance of Family Ties in the Qur’an

Allah says:
“Fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and maintain the ties of kinship.”
(An-Nisa 4:1)

This shows that maintaining family ties is an act of obedience to Allah.

  • Showing love and kindness
  • Helping relatives in need
  • Speaking respectfully
  • Avoiding grudges and hatred
  • Not cutting off relations without a valid reason

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Whoever wishes that his provision be increased and his life be extended, let him maintain his family ties.”
(Bukhari)


3️⃣ Common Problems in Maintaining Family Ties

✔ 1. Breaking relations over minor issues

Due to ego, anger or small disputes.

✔ 2. Not helping relatives in need

This is against the teachings of Islam.

✔ 3. Jealousy and hatred

Jealousy breaks families more than anything else.

✔ 4. Disrespecting elders

A sinful act that destroys blessings.

✔ 5. Creating disputes within the family

Spreading rumors, suspicion, and backbiting.

✔ 6. Injustice in financial matters

Disputes over inheritance, loans, or business ruin family ties.

✔ 7. Misunderstandings through social media

Minor issues turn into major family conflicts.

In this world:

  • Barakah in wealth
  • Long and peaceful life
  • Strong family support
  • Mental peace

In the Hereafter:

  • Allah’s pleasure
  • Entry to Jannah
  • Protection from punishment

5️⃣ How to Maintain Family Ties

✔ Stay connected — calls, messages, visits

✔ Help during hardships

✔ Respect elders

✔ Forgive mistakes

✔ Control anger and ego

✔ Avoid jealousy and backbiting

✔ Reconcile with those who broke ties

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The true maintainer of family ties is the one who connects even when others cut him off.”
(Bukhari)
