Islam places massive emphasis on character. Worship without good manners is incomplete.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“I was sent only to perfect good character.”
(Musnad Ahmad – Sahih)
1. Truthfulness and Honesty
Allah commands:
“O believers! Fear Allah and speak words of justice and truth.”
(Surah Al-Ahzab 33:70)
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Truth leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise.”
(Sahih Bukhari)
2. The Evil of Lying
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Lying leads to wickedness, and wickedness leads to Hellfire.”
(Sahih Bukhari)
The worst form of lying includes false testimony and deceiving others.
3. Backbiting (Gheebah)
Allah says:
“Would any of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother?”
(Surah Al-Hujurat 49:12)
This imagery shows the ugliness of backbiting.
4. Kindness to Parents
Allah commands:
“Speak to them with gracious words.”
(Surah Al-Isra 17:23)
Serving parents is one of the greatest good deeds.
5. Gentleness in Speech
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Gentleness beautifies whatever it is placed in.”
(Sahih Muslim)
A believer’s tongue is soft, not harsh or abusive.
6. Definition of a True Muslim
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“A Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hands others are safe.”
(Sahih Bukhari)
7. Trustworthiness
Allah says:
“Return trusts to whom they are due.”
(Surah An-Nisa 4:58)
Betraying trust is a sign of hypocrisy.
8. Rights of Neighbors
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Jibril kept advising me about the neighbor until I thought he would make him an heir.”
(Sahih Bukhari)
9. Arrogance
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Whoever has even a mustard seed of arrogance in his heart will not enter Paradise.”
(Sahih Muslim)
10. Envy (Hasad)
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Envy consumes good deeds like fire consumes wood.”
(Abu Dawood – Sahih)
